Restaurant Quality Grilled Salmon!

Tonight we got a gorgeous piece of salmon on the grill.  Make sure to get antibiotic free.  If possible get wild caught.  You can get these 3 lb plus pieces of salmon at Costco or Sam's club pretty reasonably.  A piece like this might cost $25 to $30.  That might sound expensive at first, but keep in mind restaurant sizes are between 3 to 6 ounces normally.  That means you're getting maybe 8 to 12 restaurant portions (or more) which normally would run you $15 to $20 each (or more) in the restaurant.  I steamed up some broccoli to go with it and now we're talking! Check out this beautiful result.  Does this look like I'm starving???? Here's the marinade recipe: This is for around a 3 lb salmon filet.  You can half it if you like. 4 tablespoons lemon juice 6 cloves of garlic minced 1  teaspoon  salt 6 tablespoons olive oil 1 teaspoon black pepper 2 tablespoons Old Bay Soak for a day or two and then grill 3...

It's Raining! Deal with it!

Just a real short post here.  Lot's been going on in my personal life and haven't been able to post the way I've wanted to.  Hopefully that will change shortly.  But I did want to post one quick tip/inspiration. Last time I was making some burgers and it was freezing and I was out there anyhow.  Well, the weather has turned and now it's warmer, but it's raining.  OH WELL!  And that's what you got to tell your ego.  Sometimes it's okay to give your ego a little slap or two upside the head when it gets in the way of what you're trying to accomplish. So tip of the day.  Don't make up any FAKE excuses for why you can't achieve your goals. Until next time!

Preparing Food Ahead of Time is Key!

Preparing food ahead of time is key!  And you need to make foods you actually like!  And in my case I like grilled burgers so much more than the broiled or fried ones.  So...if it's cold and dark....well it's cold and dark!  DEAL WITH IT!  LOL  And by the way, these are organic and grass fed...just because you should. TIP:  Don't make burgers difficult.  For the best burgers, don't massage the meat (This makes the meat tough).  Just form patties, slightly indented to help keep them flat.  Then, right before it hits the grill, sprinkle the side hitting the grill liberally with kosher salt and fresh ground pepper.  Before flipping, salt and pepper the other side.  Best burgers you've had, I guarantee! And the final result.

TIP! It's Important to Have Your Foods Prepared Ahead of Time

Sticking to your diet can be hard.   One simple tip is to have foods prepared ahead of time. Even on your cheat day!

What are complex carbs?

I have been getting this question a lot lately.  Especially from my kids.  They seem to be a bit confused.  Dad, you now eat beans, but won't even eat brown rice?  I thought brown rice was good for you?  It's better than white rice right?  Beans have tons of carbs, how come they are okay?  Wait, vegetables have carbs too?  Are they complex?  I can eat as many vegetables as I want, but not certain vegetables?  What's wrong with white potatoes?  Don't they grow straight out of the ground?  We don't even take anything away from them.  Help! I know, I know!  It's really confusing.  So to clear things up, I want to show you how to easily identify a complex carb.  One of my friends posted this online this morning and I think it makes the confusing, very simple. I hope that clear it up!

Are You Eating Too Little To Lose Weight???

Is it possible that you are actually eating too little to lose weight?  When I first started my program, I wasn't able to get an appointment for a couple weeks.  So, I asked Dr. Peikari, what I could do before we met.  His answered shocked me.  "Eat more!"  He told me it would jump start me and help to start to undo all the years of harm I had done dieting. What!  Really?  Dieting was doing harm?  There's actually lots of reasons this is the case.  Everything from killing your metabolic rate to the fact that your body will actually cannibalize muscle before fat.  I probably need someone smarter than me (Dr. Peikari could chime in here!) to explain it, but what I can tell you is that I'm eating a ton more than I have ever in my life and the muscle is starting to pile on and the fat is starting to disappear. GO FIGURE! I don't agree with everything in these articles, but the main point is basically the same.  Drastically limi...
